Searching for an Address/Street Segment

MyAnneArundel requires that an address or street segment be identified to generate the information displayed to the user. The user may have entered their desired address on a page external to MyAnneArundel. This information is then passed to the application and the results are loaded on entry. If not, the user will be prompted to enter an address after continuing to the application from the welcome screen. There are two types of searches. These are further described below.

Structure Address Search: This is the default search for MyAnneArundel and necessitates that the user begin entering a full address starting with the street number. As they do so, possible values for the address they are seeking will be displayed in a drop down box. The user should select the appropriate address and click the "Submit" button to continue. Each structure in Anne Arundel County with an address has been assigned a specific point in a GIS map layer. Locating the structure address will provide the most accurate results in MyAnneArundel. When selected, the address bar in the upper left of the application will be updated and the system will begin loading the content. If the desired Structure Address cannot be located, click on the "Address not showing up in list?" link and proceed to the Street Segment Search.

Street Segment Search: The user is prompted to enter a Street Number and Street Name in separate fields. As a Street Name is entered, the system will provide possible values based on the input. Select from these Street Names, and click the "Submit" button. If the Street Number entered is not within the ranges of addresses for the selected Street Name, the user will be prompted to select from the valid ranges. This search method identifies the street segment that includes the Street Number entered. MyAnneArundel attempts to determine a point on this segment near the actual address based on a calculation. Once chosen, the address in the upper left of the application will be updated with the range of street numbers associated with the selected segment.

Map Navigation

There are several methods and tools available in MyAnneArundel that allow the user to interact with the map that is displayed. These are:

Zoom to selected address: This link is located below the address in the upper left corner of the screen. On click, the map will be re-centered on and will zoom to the selected address.
Map Controls: These are physical tools that are located on the map itself.

Zoom Bar: There is a vertical bar with an arrow on each end and tick marks on the right side in the upper left hand region of the map. A marker on the zoom bar indicates the extent to which the map is zoomed in/out. To zoom in, click on the up arrow or drag the marker up to the desired tick mark. Conversely, click the down arrow or drag the marker downward to zoom out.
Pan Arrows: There are 8 arrows located in each corner and centered on each side of the map. Click on these arrows to pan in the indicated direction.

Navigation Bar: The navigation bar is located in the upper right section of the application on the tool bar above the map. The user can click on the icons to switch navigation modes and change the map extent as indicated below.

Pan Mode: This is the default navigation mode and must be selected to click on specific markers/view information in the map. When in pan mode, the user can click and drag the map in any direction to explore.
Zoom-In Mode: When this mode is selected, the user will have the capability to draw a box by clicking on the map, dragging to the opposite corner, and releasing the mouse button. The map will zoom in to the selected extent.
Zoom-Out Mode: When this mode is selected, the user will have the capability to draw a box by clicking on the map, dragging to the opposite corner, and releasing the mouse button. The map will zoom out to the selected extent.
Full Extent: When clicked, the map will be zoomed out to the farthest extent.
Previous Extent: When clicked, the map will be returned to the last extent selected.
Next Extent: When clicked, the map will move to the next in the history of selected extents.

Keyboard/Mouse Navigation Methods: These are shortcuts that can be utilized when the map is in Pan mode only.

Use - key to zoom out a level

Additional Functions

General Information Tab

The General Information tab of the application includes service related information based on the selected location. On load, the selected address will be listed in the upper left corner of the application and is indicated on the map with the

marker. Clicking on the Address listed in the upper left corner will re-center and zoom the map to the selected address.

The following capabilities are available to the user by clicking on the

marker that is placed on the map.

Md SDAT Real Property Search: When clicked, the selected address will be passed as a parameter to the Md SDAT site and the resulting tax assessment record will be opened in a new page.
Show Parcel(s): The parcel(s) associated with the address entered will be shaded in blue on the map.
Bird's Eye View: A new browser will be opened with a bird's eye view of the address entered.

Note: The SDAT and Parcel functionality are only available when using the structure address search and the address mapped does not reside within the City of Annapolis.

Click on the

"Select a Service Category" bar on the left panel to display a menu of categories to choose from. The categories that have an associated marker on the map, will be identified on the map with specific icons as indicated below. The categories that do not have a map marker are identified with the

icon. The available categories are broken into the following groupings:

Assigned Districts/Service Areas: These categories provide access to information about assigned County services that are determined based on the selected location falling within defined geographic boundaries.
- County Council Information
- Bureau of Highways Information
- Recycling/Trash Collection
- AACO School Service Areas
- Fire Department Service Area
- Police Department Service Area

Nearest Points of Interest: These categories provide the user with information about Points of Interest that are nearest to the selected location. Proximity is determined by a straight line measurement.
- County Payment Center
- Library
- Senior Center
- Hospital
- Farmer's Market
- MARC Station
- Park & Ride
- Post Office
- VEIP Location
- Waste Management Convenience Center
- MVA Location

The following Icons are used within the General Information Tab to indicate specific functionality:

Map Related Function: This icon indicates that when the associated link is clicked, there will be some action taken on the map. Frequently, this is zooming to a feature or showing/hiding a map layer.
Link to External WebSite: When the associated link is clicked, a website will be opened in a new browser instance in an effort to provide more information.
Get Directions Function: This function will pass the address entered and the address for the specific feature to an external website for directions. These directions will open in a new browser window.

To generate a printer friendly "General Information" report, click on the printer icon to the left of the options menu or select "Printer Friendly Report" from the options menu. See instructions above in the "Options Menu" section for more details.
